THE C.R. SANDIDGE WINES

2021 Glam Gams

Rosé

Grenache 100%

The 2021 vintage, a growing season which was almost ideal. A mild – warm spring to start things off. It then turned warm followed by unprecedented 100 – 115 degree weather for six solid weeks. When we felt “was this ever going to end”, weather returned to a “normal” September – October pattern. That cooling of temperatures by 20 to 30 degrees is what saved the vintage. As one might expect, all fruit was fully ripened at harvest.

Our 2021 Glam Gams Rose represents a first for C R Sandidge. It is made of Grenache from a vineyard bordering to the south of Native River vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA. The soil is comprised of sand, sandy loam and large round rock (softball to beach ball sized).

  • Harvest: All fruit was hand-picked, sorted and destemmed – crushed into a one ton fermentation bins. The must was allowed to develop a light salmon pink color and was then promptly pressed – off and settled for 2 days whereby it was racked to a stainless steel tank.
  • Fermentation: A yeast developed in northern France was utilized for the primary fermentation. The juice fermented for 20 days.
  • Malo-lactic conversion: No malo – lactic conversion was permitted as we wished to retain what acid the young wine possessed.
  • The wine was aged for 6 months in a stainless steel tank.
  • Filtration Level: Very tight at bottling.

Our 2021 Glam Gams Rose is quite European in it’s presentation. Grenache is the most planted grape variety in all of Europe. It’s main use is for rose wine or as a blending partner to other reds. What makes it popular as a rose is the delightful strawberry – rose petal – white pepper notes found in the flavors and aromas. Grenache wines are also fairly soft and approachable at a young age. This is your summer sipper. Great with freshly made sandwiches, mild cheeses and charcuterie or slightly chilled in your glass. You can not go wrong with those choices!
