THE C.R. SANDIDGE WINES

2020 Tri*Umph

Red Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 57%
Merlot 43%

The 2020 vintage was a growing season rating an amazing 8.5 edging towards 9.0 on a scale of 0 to 10. Early – spring and summer weather was almost ideal. The only real wrinkle was when arsonists north of Chelan decided to start several forest fires. Ash plumes flowing south – southwest towards the Lake Chelan valley miraculously missed our Purtteman estate vineyard! Fires both lightening caused and those set by arsonists in Oregon also drifted up into south central Washington however, the distance from those fires was enough to not cause smoke taint issues.

The harvest for this fine red wine blend came from two Wahluke Slope vineyard sites. Small berries packed with dark purple color, black fruit and red berry flavors and aromas provided the generous backbone of this fine wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were harvested from the “James” vineyard. This site was planted more than a decade ago. The Merlot was grown at the “Stone Tree” vineyard site. The two vineyards represent some of the most sought after – coveted grapes grown in Washington State.

  • Harvest: All fruit was hand-picked, sorted and destemmed – crushed into one ton fermentation bins.
  • Fermentation: A yeast developed in northern France was utilized for the primary fermentation. The various musts were fermented for 8 to 12 days on the skins prior to pressing.
  • Malo-lactic conversion: Malo – lactic conversion was fully completed while the wines were in barrels utilizing the native bacteria.
  • All wines were aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The French oak forest we sourced was “Center of France”.
  • Filtration Level: Very tight at bottling.
  • A cork made of 100% natural cork guaranteeing zero cork taint was used to seal our Tri*Umph bottles.

Our 2020 Tr*Umph is a Cabernet Sauvignon heavy wine which is quite sophisticated possessing medium – plus to full body. Flavors and aromas of sweet vanilla bean, coffee bean and mocha barrel notes plus ripe black cherries, black currants and dried Provence herbs complete the flavor and aroma profile. This is a wine of substance. Match with a beef steak or a vegetarian meal centered around eggplant or mushrooms. As with any fine meal, the sauce makes all the difference. Our family thanks you for your friendship and support. Enjoy!!
