2019 Caris

Red Blend

Merlot 46%
Malbec 27%
Cabernet Franc 27%

The 2019 vintage was a growing season rating an amazing 9.0 on a scale of 0 to 10…………. until early the second week of September.  Temperatures plunged to near freezing which almost shut down the ripening process.  Grape growers not hanging excess amounts of fruit were eventually able to fully ripen come late – September and October.  All in all, 2019 was a manageable growing season.  Winemakers needed to pull some rabbits out a the hat.

The harvest for this fine red wine blend came from several vineyard sites.  Most importantly, the Malbec utilized in this delicious blend hailed from our estate Purtteman vineyard.  Small berries packed with deep dark purple color and massive ripe raspberry flavors and aromas provided the generous backbone of this fine wine.  The Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes were harvested from two separate Chelan County vineyards.

  • Harvest:  All fruit was hand-picked, sorted and destemmed – crushed into one ton fermentation bins.
  • Fermentation:  A yeast developed in northern California was utilized for the primary fermentation.  The various musts were fermented for 8 to 10 days on the skins prior to pressing.
  • Malo-lactic Fermentation:  Malo – lactic fermentation was fully completed while the wine was in barrels.
  • All wines were aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.  The French oak forests we sourced was “Center of France”.
  • Filtration Level:  Very tight at bottling.

I am very happy with the quality this fine vineyard provided Athena and I with.    Our 2019 Caris is a wine which is elegant yet substantial.  Flavors and aromas of ripe red raspberries plus a touch of sage, ripe strawberries and black currants complete the flavor and aroma profile.  This is a very versatile food wine.  Match with a sweet potato ravioli topped with sauteed mushrooms and spinach. We thank-you for your friendship and support.  Enjoy!!
