THE C.R. SANDIDGE WINES

2019 Cabernet Sauvignon

The Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon 87%
Syrah 13%

The 2019 vintage was a growing season rating an amazing 9.0 on a scale of 0 to 10…………. until early the second week of September.  Temperatures plunged to near freezing which almost shut down the ripening process.  Grape growers not hanging excess amounts of fruit were eventually able to fully ripen come late – September and October.  All in all, 2019 was a manageable growing season.  Winemakers needed to pull some rabbits out a the hat.

The harvest for this fine red wine blend came from a single vineyard site.  The McNary Vineyard is located on the far southeast end of the Horse Heaven Hills AVA.  This is a warm site yet not oppressively so.  This site was definitely affected by the massive Missoula flood created when the namesake ice dam burst during the last ice age.

  • Harvest:  All fruit was hand-picked, sorted and destemmed – crushed into one ton fermentation bins.
  • Fermentation: The various musts were fermented for 8 to 9 days on the skins prior to pressing.
  • Malo-lactic Fermentation:  Malo – lactic fermentation was fully completed while the wine was in barrels.
  • Both wines were blended together then aged on French oak.  The French oak forests we sourced was “Center of France”.
  • Filtration Level:  Very tight at bottling.

Athena and I are pleased to offer a rarity for C R Sandidge Wines.  Namely, a varietal wine.  The last time we did so was our 2004 Syrah wines.  Our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine which is elegant possessing a solid medium – body.  Flavors and aromas of ripe black cherries, ripe strawberries and touch of blackberry complete the grape flavor and aroma profile.  The French oak added lovely toasty oak, graham cracker and vanilla bean notes.  This is a great comfort food wine.  Match with a Char-grilled bacon – blue cheeseburger and roasted potatoes.  We thank-you for your friendship and support.  Enjoy!!
